FERMA Chairman Links Road Infrastructure to Unity and Security at Unity Summit

Abuja, Nigeria – December 13, 2025

The Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Dr. Musa Babayo, has highlighted the critical link between good road infrastructure, national unity, and security, stating that poor road conditions can contribute directly to insecurity across the country.

Dr. Babayo made the remarks while speaking at the 2025 Nigeria First Unity Summit, organized by The Unity Project Nigeria (TUPN) and attended by senior government officials, security stakeholders, youth leaders, and civil society representatives.

According to the FERMA Chairman, a functional road network promotes economic integration, social interaction, and national cohesion, while neglected roads can hinder movement, limit access to communities, and create opportunities for criminal activities.

He also spoke on the role of technology in road monitoring and security, noting that digital surveillance, data-driven maintenance systems, and real-time monitoring can improve road safety, support security operations, and contribute to peacebuilding efforts nationwide.

Dr. Babayo further reaffirmed that the President of Nigeria remains committed to improving road infrastructure, adding that FERMA is aligning with this vision through innovative maintenance strategies and strategic partnerships.

He announced FERMA’s readiness to partner with The Unity Project Nigeria, acknowledging the organization’s role in convening stakeholders for constructive dialogue on peace, unity, and security.

The summit, themed “Peace, Unity and Security: A Collective Responsibility,” reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s development and security challenges, with infrastructure identified as a key enabler of national stability.
